Diagnosis
Wood diffuse-porous. Vessels are mainly 2–4 in groups, occasionally solitary, with tangential diameters up to 120 μm. Perforation plates predominately simple, occasionally scalariform with plates up to 8 bars. Intervessel pits alternate, bordered, 4.0–6.8 μm in vertical size. Helical thickening is present throughout the vessel elements. Fibers libriform, mostly septate. Axial parenchyma scanty paratracheal to vasicentric. Rays 1–3-seriate, mainly 2-seriate, heterocellular with 1–2 rows of marginal square or upright cells. Vessel-ray pits variable, distinct borders or much reduced borders to apparently simple. Oil/mucilage cells abundant, associated with ray parenchyma, axial parenchyma, and occur among fibers. Crystals absent in axial parenchyma and ray cells.
